Reporting to the Village Manager, the Economic Development Director leads the Village's efforts to grow jobs, attract investment, support existing businesses, and manage programs that strengthen the community's economic base. The Director will align department operations with the Village Council's vision, oversee department budgets and projects, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and provide data-driven guidance to the Village Manager for informed financial decision-making.

This position serves as a key representative of the Village to residents, developers, business owners, media, neighboring communities, regional organizations, and state and federal agencies. Active participation in the New Mexico Municipal League is expected.

  • Leads business recruitment, retention & expansion initiatives
  • Develops and manages economic development programs & budgets
  • Coordinates public-private partnerships to support commercial growth & placemaking

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Economic Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, Urban Planning, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in economic development, community development, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in business recruitment, retention, and expansion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with public agencies, private sector partners, and community stakeholders
  • Ability to manage projects, budgets, and economic development programs
  • Working knowledge of local ordinances and regulations related to growth and development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Economic Developer (CED) designation, or ability to obtain within three years
  • Experience in rural, resort, or tourism-based communities
  • Background in tourism-driven economic development strategies
  • Experience with post-disaster economic recovery efforts
  • Familiarity with grant writing and administration, including infrastructure and business development funding
