RECRUITMENT BROCHURE
This job requires boots on the ground and a hand on the wheel. Bonham is on the verge of significant, community-driven growth, and this is your opportunity to help build it from the ground up. As Executive Director of the Bonham Economic Development Corporation (BEDCO), you won’t be managing from a distance. This is a working leadership role, one that demands presence, initiative, and a willingness to dive into the details.
You’ll work closely with the City Manager, BEDCO Board, and city departments to move key projects forward. You’ll be expected to lead with action, not just ideas.
Bonham isn’t a place where things land neatly on your desk. It’s a place where progress happens because someone made the call, knocked on the door, showed up to the meeting, and followed through. That someone is you.
In this role, you will:
- Roll up your sleeves to lead recruitment, retention, and redevelopment efforts across Bonham
- Oversee BEDCO initiatives including downtown development, tourism coordination, and commercial real estate strategy
- Partner with the City Manager and serve as a key member of Bonham’s executive leadership team
- Work directly with the BEDCO Board, City Council, Chamber, and CVB to align priorities and maintain momentum
- Represent Bonham at trade shows, site visits, and broker meetings with clarity, professionalism, and persistence
- Coordinate infrastructure needs, incentive negotiations, and development agreements that support long-term growth.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Five (5) years of progressive experience in economic development
- Proven experience recruiting property and sales tax-generating businesses
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, coordinate infrastructure needs, and prepare development reports
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Marketing, or a related field
- Certification as a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) or Professional Community and Economic Developer (PCED)
- Experience in municipal government operations
- Familiarity with Texas development tools such as TIRZ, PIDs, and public-private partnerships
Core Competencies:
- Strategic Thinking – Able to evaluate long-range opportunities and align them with current assets and limitations
- Project Management – Skilled in organizing complex initiatives from concept to execution
- Relationship Building – Confident and credible with elected officials, business leaders, and community partners
- Communication – Clear, persuasive, and responsive in both written and verbal formats
- Initiative – Comfortable taking the lead without waiting for direction
- Resilience – Able to work through ambiguity, manage multiple priorities, and maintain momentum over time
Faxed and mailed submissions will not be considered.
