Position Overview:
The City of Bonham is seeking an experienced and visionary City Engineer to lead critical infrastructure development and guide the city through a period of unprecedented growth. This position is central to advancing major capital projects, overseeing engineering functions, and ensuring that development aligns with Bonham’s long-term vision for sustainable progress. The City Engineer will report directly to the City Manager and serve as a key advisor on infrastructure planning and implementation.
This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with a passion for community development, technical expertise, and the leadership skills to manage complex, large-scale projects. The City Engineer will be instrumental in shaping Bonham's future.
Key Responsibilities:
Capital Project Leadership: Oversee the planning, design, and execution of major infrastructure projects, including transportation networks, water systems, sewer systems, and stormwater management.
Development Oversight: Provide expert engineering guidance for private and public development projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and alignment with city growth plans.
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with city leadership to forecast infrastructure needs, develop strategic plans, and implement projects that support Bonham’s sustainable growth.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all engineering projects meet local, state, and federal guidelines, maintaining safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key liaison with developers, contractors, government agencies, and community stakeholders to promote effective communication and project coordination.
Innovation and Problem-Solving: Apply innovative engineering solutions to address complex infrastructure challenges and support the city's evolving needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
In addition to leading engineering efforts, the City Engineer will provide strategic oversight for the following divisions:
- Public Works
- Development Services
The City Engineer will ensure these departments operate efficiently, contributing to the city's overall infrastructure objectives. A seasoned leadership team is in place, offering strong operational support.
Qualifications:
Education and Licensure: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field is required. A Texas Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is mandatory, or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in municipal engineering, infrastructure project management, or related public works leadership.
Technical Expertise: Proficient in civil engineering principles, including water, sewer, stormwater systems, and roadway construction. Strong understanding of regulatory standards and project compliance.
Leadership Abilities: Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large-scale infrastructure projects. Capable of strategic thinking and efficient resource management.
Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with developers, residents, and city officials.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications in public works management or municipal engineering.
Extensive experience with long-range infrastructure planning and large-scale development projects.
Demonstrated success in fostering community partnerships and promoting stakeholder collaboration.
